NEW YORK (October 18, 2018) – The MLS Disciplinary Committee has found both Minnesota United FC and the Colorado Rapids in violation of the Mass Confrontation Policy during the 90+ minute of the teams’ match on October 13.
Minnesota United, as well as head coach Adrian Heath, each have been issued an undisclosed fine for the club’s second violation of the League’s policy this season. The Colorado Rapids, as well as head coach Anthony Hudson, each have been issued an undisclosed fine for the club’s third violation of the League’s policy this season.
Minnesota United midfielder Alexi Gomez has been issued an undisclosed fine and three-game suspension for violent conduct. Gomez will serve his first suspension during Minnesota’s match against the LA Galaxy on October 21, and will serve his second suspension during Minnesota’s match against Columbus Crew SC on October 28. The midfielder will serve his third and final suspension during his first match of the 2019 MLS Regular Season.
The MLS Disciplinary Committee has issued an undisclosed fine and additional game suspension (two games total) to Minnesota United midfielder Harrison Heath for entering the field of play during a confrontational incident. Heath, who received a red card during the incident for violent conduct, will serve his first suspension during Minnesota’s match against the LA Galaxy on October 21. The midfielder will serve his second suspension against Columbus Crew SC on October 28.
Colorado Rapids forward Yannick Boli has been issued an undisclosed fine and a one-game suspension for entering the field of play during a confrontational incident. Boli will serve his suspension during the Rapids’ match against the San Jose Earthquakes on October 21.
The MLS Disciplinary Committee has issued Minnesota United goalkeeper coach John Pascarella an undisclosed fine and additional three-game suspension (four games total) his aggressive for aggressive behavior toward an opponent and for entering the field of play during a confrontational incident. Pascarella was dismissed from the match for irresponsible behavior, which carries an automatic one-game suspension. The goalkeeper coach will serve his first suspension during Minnesota’s match against the LA Galaxy on October 21 and will serve his second suspension against Columbus Crew SC on October 28. Pascarella’s remaining two suspensions will be served during his first two matches of the 2019 MLS Regular Season.
Colorado midfielder Marlon Hairston and defender Edgar Castillo, as well as Minnesota United midfielder Miguel Ibarra, have each been issued an undisclosed fine for inciting or escalating the mass confrontation incident.
Minnesota midfielder Maximiano has been issued an undisclosed fine for violating the bench behavior policy.
The MLS Disciplinary Committee has found Colorado Rapids midfielder Jack Price, as well as Minnesota United defender Brent Kallman, midfielder Darwin Quintero, and forward Angelo Rodriguez in violation of the League’s policy regarding hands to the face, head or neck of an opponent during the mass confrontation incident. Price, Kallman, Quintero, and Rodriguez each have been issued an undisclosed fine for their actions.
Independent Panel Decision
The Independent Panel, consisting of one representative from the United States Soccer Federation, one representative from the Canadian Soccer Association, and one representative nominated by the Professional Referee Organization, has denied the Colorado Rapids appeal of the red card issued to defender Tommy Smith for abusive language or gestures in the 90+ minute of Colorado’s match against Minnesota United on October 13.

The Independent Panel has denied the Vancouver Whitecaps FC appeal of the red card issued to forward Kei Kamara for violent conduct in the 90+ minute of Vancouver’s match against Sporting Kansas City on October 17. Kamara will serve his red-card suspension in Vancouver’s next match on October 21 against the Los Angles Football Club (LAFC).
Each Club is entitled to two unsuccessful appeals per season, including playoffs. Since appeals made by Colorado and Vancouver were unsuccessful, each team has one remaining unsuccessful appeal for any future dismissals in the 2018 season (including the playoffs).
