Rapids Academy Update - May 17

The past two weeks have been busy for the U16 and U18 Development Academy Teams as well as the Rapids Youth Academy teams. From a win at State Cup to a first place finish in league play, the Academy saw many good results.


US SOCCER DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY TEAMS:
RAPIDS U-16 Development Academy holds third place in the Frontier Division of the US Soccer Development Academy with 17 total points for the current season.

Friday, May 6 vs SHATTUCK-SAINT MARY'S SOCCER ACADEMY U-15/16– On home turf the Rapids U16s defeat the Minnesota Shattuck-Saint Mary’s Soccer Academy 3-1.

YOUTH ACADEMY FEATURE TEAM:

This past weekend the Colorado Rapids U14 girls team won their league in their final match-up. The girls, headed by coach, Ceri Richards finished league play with a record of 17-0. In their final game, which was played Saturday, May 14 vs Colorado Fusion Copa they outscored their opponent 10-0. Throughout the season they’ve outscored their opponents 79-1.


REPEAT CHAMPIONS:

On Sunday, May 8 the Colorado Rapids U16 Colorado Youth Soccer (CYS) team won their second consecutive Colorado State Cup.  The game was tightly contested throughout with the Rapids taking an early lead, but Boulder County Force stormed back and tied the game with a penalty kick in the dying moments of regulation.  The Rapids headed into overtime down a player as they suffered an ejection on the penalty.  With just 2 minutes to go until penalty kicks Jonathan Roman scored with an impressive free kick send the Rapids on to the USYS Regional Competition in June.


For his efforts Roman, who is a U15 player playing up into the U16 age group, was named the MVP of the final.
