Rapids sign Davy Armstrong to new contract

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – The Colorado Rapids has signed Homegrown Player and Aurora native Davy Armstrong to a new contract. Per league and team policy, contract details were not disclosed.

“Davy has done a lot of work to recover from his knee injury, and we’re thrilled that he’s back to full health,” said Paul Bravo, the Rapids Vice President of Soccer Operations. “He was out of contract following last season, but stayed without throughout his rehabilitation process. Now that he’s back to full health, we’re happy to have the additional depth that he gives us, and will give him a chance to earn a spot as he continues to develop and improve as a player.”

“I’m happy to have signed a new deal with the Rapids, and will be working hard to return to match fitness,” said Armstrong. “This is an opportunity to try to establish myself in the team, and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Armstrong, 22, was signed by the Rapids on August 16, 2010 as the club’s first Homegrown Player. He has played in U.S. Open Cup and CONCACAF Champions League matches, and made his MLS debut on October 27, 2012, in a 2-0 win over the Houston Dynamo. While on loan with Phoenix FC last season, Armstrong suffered an ACL tear in his right knee, and has since been recovering from the injury.
