Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, the USL affiliate of the Colorado Rapids, announced today the signing of Colorado Rapids Academy goalkeeper Abraham Rodriguez to a professional contract pending league and federation approval. Rodriguez, 17, has featured in eight games for the Switchbacks in 2019, making 33 saves, including two penalties. Rodriguez made his debut on March 30, 2019 against Phoenix Rising FC. In that match, the goalkeeper made 11 saves, including a penalty, in route to being named USL Player of the Week. Rodriguez was previously on a USL Academy contract with Colorado Springs.
“Abe has been tested in USL throughout the 2019 season and has proven he is ready to be a full-time professional, said Senior Director of Soccer Development & USL General Manager Brian Crookham. “His performances to date and the maturity he has shown gives us the confidence that there is much more to come from a goalkeeper so early in his professional soccer journey.”
