COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - Colorado Rapids 2 have signed midfielder Marlon Vargas from Tacoma Defiance for the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season, the club announced today.
“We are excited to add a player with proven success in the league that shows high end potential,” said Brian Crookham, Rapids 2 General Manager. “Marlon will give us a dynamic presence in the final third that will also allow others to better express themselves on the pitch.”
Vargas, 22, arrives in Colorado after coming off of a breakout season where he led Tacoma’s attack with 13 goals and six assists and notched himself a spot on the inaugural MLS NEXT Pro Best XI list. During his five years with Seattle, Vargas has climbed the ranks, starting as an academy player in 2016 and signing his first professional contract at 17-years-old. The midfielder compiled four goals and seven assists in 65 appearances with the club in his first four years as a professional. Additionally, Vargas brings with him international experience having been called up to El Salvador’s senior national team during the 2021 season.
