COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — Colorado Rapids 2 today announced several roster updates ahead of the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season.
The club exercised the contract options for midfielder Yosuke Hanya and defender Blake Malone. A native of Yokohama, Japan, Hanya was named the 2022 Rapids 2 Player of the Year after contributing four goals and four assists across 23 appearances. Malone played in 17 games after making his debut with the club on May 8. The 21-year-old defender was a mainstay of the Rapids 2 defense, playing 1,359 minutes and contributing one assist in the 2022 season.
Rapids 2 declined options on defender Omar Gomez and forward Michael Harris. Gomez played a total of 1,343 minutes in a variety of defensive positions across 18 appearances. Harris appeared in eight games for the club, scoring the final penalty in two consecutive shootout wins.
Midfielders Dillon Serna and Daniel Chacón are currently under contract through the 2023 season. Chacón recently returned back to Rapids 2 after his loan expired from his hometown club C.S. Cartagines on October 31.
Additionally, the club is in talks with MFK Vyskov to extend the loan of midfielder Daouda Amadou.
